Artist Statement
Since my first introduction to clay, I've gained a deep appreciation for the craft involved in ceramics and its earthly material that invites me to listen and play. It's similar to the attunement that I've developed with my body as a dancer and in return, it has also fueled my practice as an artist and maker. Through clay, I aim to celebrate both the ephemeral quality of its fragile state, and the sense of weighted permanence of stoneware ceramics.
In my recent work, I make ceramic vessels that reflect my ongoing exploration of identity and place as a Filipina woman. My work stems from my lived experience and research in traditional methods while converging them in contemporary approaches of making.
